New posts on the official Final Fantasy XIV Reddit and game forums have shed some light on massive blanket bans that hit the game earlier today. Users have flocked to both mediums to express their disappointment with Square Enix's handling of the situation. Gold spamming is rife in Final Fantasy XIV to the point where you're completely unable to have any open conversation in shout chat without blacklisting the individuals spamming the chat channel.

Back in 2010, Square Enix released their second MMO; Final Fantasy XIV. It didnt just fail, it was a catastrophe. It had almost entirely negative critic reviews, claiming it was a horrendous experience not to be touched. Most companies may chalk it up to a loss and move on, but Square Enix did something pretty risky. They took the game off the servers and claimed they would redo the entire thing in version 2.0, better known now as A Realm Reborn. It seemed like this was beating a dead horse and Square Enix had other projects to work on that made redoing an already failed game a waste of time. Well, A Realm Reborn was released only a few weeks ago and it shocked the world by how incredible it actually was. Square Enix has one of the greatest comeback tales in video game history by not giving up on their product to recreate one hell of a MMO.

Massively: "Monday was the end of the line for me in Final Fantasy XIV, if you consider clearing the last story-based instance in the game the end. (I don't.) The final rush of dungeons ends with at least five different grudge matches that had been built up over the course of the game, villains who were put in their place, and all of the plot revelations you could ask for. None of which I really want to talk about in detail here, because there are a lot of people who have not yet cleared the story."

Square Enix was doing more at the Tokyo Game Show than just reminding people that they're an absolute shell of their former self, they were also there to push Final Fantasy XIV for the PlayStation 4, Final Fantasy XV for the two new-gen consoles and to remind current-gen console owners that Lightning Returns is still coming in early 2014.
